Jessica on Vlad – He’s always there for me, listening, supporting, and cheering me on whether I’m parenting, writing, or cycling. He’s warm and caring with a sense of humor that makes me laugh out loud. He’s a loyal and true friend and I love that my dearest friends call him friend, too. He is a patient, loving, and enthusiastic dad who plays cards, barbies, and princess monopoly with equal joy. He loves to bicycle and read, completing multiple long-distance bike rides and novels each year. Vlad’s chosen profession, law, allows him to support our family and be an involved Dad, too. He’s home for dinner, play time, and stories every night. I’ll always be grateful his parents had the courage to leave the Soviet Union and start a new life in the United States.
Vlad on Jessica-- Jessica is an amazing partner and friend! When I met her 23 years ago I knew immediately that we were meant to be together. Our lives have been filled with so much love and joy. Jessica is a devoted and loving mother and wife and caring teacher. She organizes kids’ birthday parties, play dates, arts and crafts projects, volunteers at school, and cooks up delicious, healthy meals. Jessica is a wonderful mother to Sophie and will be a wonderful mother to another child. Jessica is a professor who is home after school with Sophie. She will take time off to welcome our baby and ease back into the work routine after six months. Teaching classes in Family and Women’s History allows her to work from home, maintain a flexible schedule, and take summers off.
Sophie--Sophie is a bubbly, friendly, second grader who loves stories, music, dance, and art projects. She enjoys riding her bike and scooter, but not as much as she likes the monkey bars. This year she played soccer and had a lot of fun on the field. When asked why she’d like a baby sister or brother, she says, “To hug and take care of and play with!”

Our home—is cozy and bright and full of color. You’re likely to find us in the kitchen baking, cooking, or gathered around a board game like Apples to Apples. In the back yard, we grow lavender, sage, and strawberries. We have a friendly cat, Augie, who is gentle with kids and famous for taking walks with us. We are two blocks from a fantastic public school with wonderful teachers and an awesome playground where families gather on weekends and summer evenings.
Family Time We will welcome your child into a warm community of family and friends. Jessica’s sister Hilary and her family live an hour away so there are lots of family gatherings. Every other week, we enjoy dinner with Vlad’s parents, whom Sophie calls babushka and dedushka. Jessica’s father, Grandpa Bob, lives in Palm Springs, close enough for plenty of visits.
Weekends find us at the playground, the zoo, a matinee, or a museum, laughing, playing and discovering. We enjoy frequent dinners with friends and their children. We always have plenty of quiet time for drawing, reading stories, and cuddling on the couch.
Parenting Watching and guiding our daughter as she grows into the person she will become means giving and getting love, creating opportunities, and sharing hugs and cuddles. We dedicate our hearts and minds to the most important role we play and embrace the opportunity open adoption provides to parent another child. We want our children to grow up to be compassionate, confident, independent and loving adults.
